Top Act Drama Academy was formed in June 2014 by Claire Lewis.
Claire is a passionate, skilled, trained, drama teacher with over 25 years of experience in teaching drama to children.
Born and bred in Brighton & Hove, Claire has been involved with drama and theatre from a young age and has worked as a performer, producer, tutor and director.
Her love of theatre was established at her primary school drama club and she recognises the enormous benefits of Drama to build confidence, life-skills and development in young people.
Claire was instrumental in setting up and establishing City Youth Theatre Company, where she worked as drama teacher, producer and director for many years on numerous productions, most notably taking the group to perform in the Billy Elliot Showcase at the Victoria Palace, West End.
Many of the young people Claire has worked with over the years have gone on to train professionally and have careers in the business.
I adore teaching drama and am extremely proud of the success of TaDA!
Allowing children the opportunity to express themselves creatively, watching them grow in their ability and confidence, whilst having fun, is enormously rewarding. From experience, I believe the skills they develop will stay with them a lifetime.
Janet White – Chaperone
Janet has worked with Claire since 2007.
I have been a trained chaperone for several years and have loved every moment. To see children grow as individuals through the fun of drama is a wonderful thing. It helps them gain confidence and self-esteem whilst learning to understand the needs of others and to be able to work in a team.
Over the years, I have seen children come to drama classes who are so shy and nervous on the first day, that they won’t even walk through the door. As a chaperone, my job is to care for the children and reassure them that drama is fun. It doesn’t take long for a shy, nervous child to be joining in with the fun, and make lots of new friends.
I have been involved with many local groups including City Youth Theatre Company, Brighton Theatre Group, Apollo Productions, The Southwick Players, Theatre Royal (Brighton) and Brighton Little Theatre. I chaperone, help with wardrobe, make all sorts of props, paint sets and I have been a Stage Manager. I have seen all aspects of the world of theatre.
I love working with Claire, she brings out the best of everyone. Many of the children that have been part of her drama classes are now performing on the West End Stage.
